Publisher: Colliers NY 1884 Approx. size: 7" by 4.5" “A Dictionary of Universal Knowledge for the People” Chambers's Encyclopaedia was founded in 1859[1] by William and Robert Chambers of Edinburgh and became one of the most important English language encyclopaedias of the 19th and 20th centuries, developing a reputation for accuracy and scholarliness. Here is a nice early set of nine from the last part of the 19th century. Features maps and numerous wood engravings. These volumes were designed to be comprehensive, accessible reference works for households and schools, richly illustrated with engravings. Binding are substantial and intact. A few volumes are I believe sun faded. Very well taken care of for their years. Normal shelfwear and rubbing on panel corners and edges of all 9 volumes. Please see photos, enlarge and email with any questions. Thanks for looking. |
