Publisher: Garden City Printing Co. Chicago 1935 Language: English and German 41 pages -- approx. measurements 11.5" by 9" Very rare event catalog for what was considered The German Day, prior to World War II; The German Day Celebration – Chicago, September 1935 A scarce pre‑World War II event catalog published by Garden City Printing Co., Chicago, 1935. This 41‑page, large‑format booklet documents the final German Day celebration held in Chicago before the event was discontinued due to rising public concern over Nazi influence and the newly declared German Reich. Produced under the direction of noted German‑American artist Gustave A. Brand (1862–1944), this catalog captures a moment of cultural pride that quickly became politically charged. Brand’s involvement is rarely mentioned in modern profiles, making this an unusual and historically revealing connection. The booklet includes bilingual English/German content, period advertising from Chicago businesses, and striking imagery — including a featured Packard 120 Convertible Coupe with Lawrence Tibbett of Twentieth Century‑Fox’s Metropolitan. Very good vintage condition with only minor wear to corners. A rare surviving example of pre‑war German‑American ephemera, seldom found complete and in this state. Significant artifact for collectors of WWII history, Chicago history, German‑American culture, and pre‑war political ephemera. Please see and enlarge all photos.
