The Black Quill 1953 ~ Blackduck Minnesota Yearbook & Orig. Commencement program

Early Blackduck Minnesota annual, yearbook showing the class of 1953.

Some history on the town:

The village of Blackduck was organized in October 1900, and the town was incorporated in December 21, 1900. The first settlers of this community came from Crookston, Minnesota. The town was founded because of the great logging potential of the area. The Continental Divide is located near the area, and provided good drainage which resulted in good logging because the land was not wet. The community was named for Blackduck Lake.

This is showing many wonderful photos and memories for the genealogy or town history buffs. Some of the contents are Buildings, Administration & Faculty,  Football, Homecoming, Who's Who, baby and youth photos, Basketball, Boxing Team, Hockey, Women in Sports etc.

Good condition with some discoloring around cover edges. Original Commencement inside. No interior writing other than the last autograph pages where some address a Carl, previous owner. Very clean and tight.

1948 The Warrior Yearbook / Annual for Waldorf College Forest City, Iowa

Waldorf University, founded in 1903 as Waldorf College, was a result of "The Great Hotel War of Forest City". This expression refers to a competitive battle between the only two upper class hotels of Forest City that were built at the same time. The end result was the Waldorf Hotel being left vacant after only four months of operation. The vacant Waldorf Hotel provided an opportunity for Rev. C. S. Salveson to put together the necessary resources in order to create a Christian college.

Enclosed in this yearbook is 'The Lutheran Bible Institute Twenty Seventh Class Commencement, May 23, 1947' Program. All graduating classmates listed on the back. Very good condition.

Also, included is the foldout with the Warriors Pep Yells for Cheerleading! Bookplate on front inside cover is a ornate and beautiful bookplate with the owners name 'Ruth Wik'.

Decorated endpapers and very whimsical drawings throughout the book. This is a very clean and very bright 1948 The Warrior Yearbook full of exciting information for the year in the College.

1949 The Warrior Yearbook / Annual for Waldorf College Forest City, Iowa

Waldorf University, founded in 1903 as Waldorf College, was a result of "The Great Hotel War of Forest City". This expression refers to a competitive battle between the only two upper class hotels of Forest City that were built at the same time. The end result was the Waldorf Hotel being left vacant after only four months of operation. The vacant Waldorf Hotel provided an opportunity for Rev. C. S. Salveson to put together the necessary resources in order to create a Christian college.

Saint Olaf College Northfield Minnesota, 1953 Viking Yearbook / Annual

St. Olaf’s School was operated as an academy until 1886, when a college department was added. The name was changed to St. Olaf College in 1889. The first college class graduated in 1890. The academy was discontinued in 1917.

This is a very nice 1953 Annual for the St. Olaf College. Full of great photos and important history for that era. Scholastic, Fine Arts, Campus Life, Organizations and Athletics are defined in this thick book. A Dedication to Arnold Flaten, sculptor / carver. "Arnold Flaten, whose sculptures can be seen all over this nation and also overseas, started out as a pastor. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1922, obtained a theology degree from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, and served churches in Montana and Minneapolls before he was asked to organize a department of art at St. Olaf."

Clemens M. Granskou, 1943–63 President of School.

Charming bookplate inside first blank page but not showing owner. No writing that I can find. A tight and very clean book.

The Jay ~ 1957 Jefferson High School "Tom Marshall" Jefferson Wisconsin Yearbook

Nice early High School Yearbook that was for the year 1957 Jefferson Wisconsin, Jefferson High. This belonged to Tom or Thomas Marshall who was a Freshman at the time. I'm guessing he was born approx. 1938.

The only notable person (not) in the book but affiliated would be Kenneth E. Gruennert, Medal of Honor recipient, attended school in Jefferson but not sure what year. It looks as though he has siblings both Freshman and Senior here.

Would be great for genealogy or town history. This is  in good condition and tight and intact. Very clean interior. Not the usually writings for some reason. This has the exterior cover on the spine ripped. That is it's only issue.
