Wild Cow Tales by Ben K. Green, Lorence Bjorklund (Illustrator) ~ 1988 Ed.

Original 1969 ~ Seventh printing 1988 (HCDJ)

In thirteen stories full of rope burns and brush scratches, the author of the classic Horse Tradin& ' tells of the days when he made a specialty of catching wild cows. Ben K. Green calls himself a  "stove-up old cowboy, " and readers of this book will learn soon enough where the broken bones came from.

Green tells of his adventures with wild steers, sharing with readers the years he worked in thorny brush and canyon country delivering those animals that were too wily or too wild for the normal roundup. Finding them was hard, even dangerous, work. Few cowboys looked for such chores. Green declares, " I got real good at it, but of course in those days I didn't know any better.

This book has been very well cared for and is in very good to like new condition.  The dust jacket is in very good condition. Only slight edge wear. The book itself does not appear to be read. Very good to excellent.

True Grit, Charles Portis First Edition, 4th Printing 1968 HC Simon & Schuster

Classic American Western written for, and immortalized 1969 by John Wayne on film, and earning him an Academy Award. Fourteen year-old Mattie Ross quits Arkansas to avenge her father's death by a no-good, drunken outlaw. She convinces the toughest US Marshall known, one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, to go along. Together they gallop across frontier West into Indian Territory. The good prevail, and laughter rises from joy. The tender age of the heroine allows the young to enjoy, and "Rooster" satisfies all our pleasure of justice dealt. An earlier, somewhat different version appeared in the Saturday Evening Post.

Red hardcovers have very little wear, slightly bumped corners. Pages are clean and crisp. There is a previous owner's name upper right hand corner first blank page and lower left inside endpaper shows stamp of original book store in Dickinson ND. There is no writing or markings in the book. No jacket.

Overall, it is in very good condition....

Published right after Rogers' death in Alaska. On August 15, 1935, the plane carrying Will Rogers crashed in Point Barrow, Alaska. He died on impact. Frontispiece depicting Will Rogers and numerous other photos through-out the book.

His wise cracks and folksy observations became more prized by audiences than his expert roping. He became recognized as being a very informed and smart philosopher--telling the truth in very simple words so that everyone could understand.
