The Seven Lamps of Architecture is an extended essay, first published in May 1849 and written by the English art critic and theorist John Ruskin. The 'lamps' of the title are Ruskin's principles of architecture.

1. Sacrifice – dedication of man's craft to God, as visible proofs of man's love and obedience
2. Truth – handcrafted and honest display of materials and structure. Truth to materials and honest display of construction were bywords since the serious Gothic Revival had distanced itself from the whimsical "Gothick" of the 18th century; it had been often elaborated by Pugin and others.
3. Power – buildings should be thought of in terms of their massing and reach towards the sublimity of nature by the action of the human mind upon them and the organization of physical effort in constructing buildings

Good to Very good condition for the age. The front board shows a spill on it and lifted the cloth color. Seen in photo. No dustcover. Very minimal edgewear. Some minor fraying on the spine ends and a small amount on the edge of front cover. The endpapers are decorated. There are two names and a date on the endpapers. Samuel Blocker, Aug 17th, 1921 in pencil and David Cameron Fischer in black ink. Three E's are stamped on next blank page. The pages show some toning. But otherwise all pages are in excellent stiff condition No tears or markings. Each Chapter starts anew with the page numbers.  8 X 6 X 2 inches. Teal blue cloth gilted title on spine.

Bungalow Basics Bathrooms by Paul Duchscherer & Douglas Keister 2004

Pomegranate Communications

Bungalows of the early twentieth century were pleasantly small, well designed, and affordable. The same can be said of Pomegranate's Bungalow Basics books. Each book in the series spotlights a different aspect of bungalows, those charming and efficient homes that came to epitomize the Arts and Crafts style in American residences. Douglas Keister's photographs capture the results of meticulous restorations, while Paul Duchscherer's text provides concise information about bungalow design and history.

Abbeville Press, New York, c1995
Includes bibliographical references ( 92 pages ) and index

This book provides a compact guide to the era, its designers, key building types, furnishings, details, and materials inside and out--complete with a timeline and lists of notable landmarks and preservation societies.

Reacting to the mechanization of the industrial revolution, late-19th-century designers in England and America--John Ruskin, William Morris, and Gustav Stickley, among others--urged a return to the fine craftsmanship exemplified by medieval craft guilds. According to their idealistic credo, a life of true beauty could be found in honest handwork and simple spaces.
