A Struggle for Justice by Pierce Egan (Beach North Dakota) ~ Scarce 1913 book Tribune Co. Bismarck

A STORY OF LOVE, ROMANCE AND ADVENTURE IN WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA. A book of forty two chapters written by Pierce Egan of Beach, North Dakota

Takes place in western North Dakota, and is dedicated to the wife of the author who helped him over  many of tho rough places in life. Mr. Egan is an entertaining writer and never allows interest to lag for a moment. He has a very strong plot which is laid in Beach, Medora and other points in the Bad Lands and western North Dakota. It deals with frontier life and "We, the undersigned members of conditions at the time when Theodore Roosevelt was at Medora. It, recites in a fascinating' manner the experiences of a young lawyer who became the state's attorney and how he struggled against crooks of all kinds in order that he might uphold the principles of right and honesty according to a promise made his dying mother. How he carried his point and again against the pleadings of his sweetheart of the opposition to  account of his religions. His victories against big odds through bribery, threats of death, impeachment, etc. He has but two companions aside from his sweet heart, and they are a Catholic priest and an editor. The priest and the young lawyer are wounded, and the editor killed, but they finally win the day, the ruffians are ousted and the young couple get married. Beach becomes a thriving city and the principals in the cast live to enjoy the distinction which they won. All the scenes are recognized by those familiar with the locations. It is a powerful story, written in short chapters, intensely interesting from start to finish.
